Most student chat-app clones only handle text. Users wanted reliable voice/video calling too, without expensive third-party SDKs.
Used raw WebRTC with a custom Firebase signaling layer instead of a paid SDK, giving full control over call setup and quality.
Calls were taking 4-5 seconds to connect on weak networks, and dropped when users switched from Wi-Fi to mobile data.
Pre-negotiated ICE candidates ahead of time and added automatic network-switch handling with a reconnect queue in the BLoC layer.
Sandeep's attention to real-world edge cases — like network switching mid-call — is rare to see in a student project. Genuinely production-minded work.
